Project Quotes
Information necessary for creating a project quote:
- Sample text: Please provide me with a sample of the text (a chapter from the middle of the book is usually a good representation). I will use this to calculate a price per page and determine the time necessary to complete the index.
- Sample index: Do you have an index that represents the format you would like to use for your index? Please provide that to me.
- Index specifications: I will discuss with you the requirements for your index which include:
- format (indented or run-in)
- number of subheading levels
- alphabetization (word-by-word or letter-by-letter)
- number arrangement
- cross-reference format and placement
- punctuation
- capitalization of main headings
- reference locator format
- indexing of footnotes, appendices, display material
- length of index
- delivery date of final index
- delivery format of final index
- Additional information: Do you have the copyeditor’s style sheet? This includes valuable information about the treatment of names and other proper terms. Please provide that to me.
- Receipt of final page proofs: When will I receive the final page proofs? If your schedule changes and proofs are delayed in being delivered to me, an equal number of days will be added to the date of delivery of the index.
Sending me the text:
You may email the page proofs to me as a PDF file attachment and/or you may send them to me in hardcopy. A $.10 per page printing charge will be added for proofs submitted in electronic format only.
Delivery of index:
I will deliver the index in your choice of the following formats:
- Adobe® Acrobat® (.pdf)
- Rich Text Format (.rtf)
- Microsoft® Word (.doc)
- Plain Text or ASCII (.txt)
What is the delivery date for the index?
After you review the index I will be happy to make adjustments requiring less than two hours free of charge. It is important that the indexer make the changes in order to protect the integrity of the index.
Please allow me to proofread the index after it has been typeset. I do not charge for this service and it ensures that the index is properly formatted to meet the needs of the reader.
